It was distributed in the Haight Ashbury area and was an early member of the UPS (Underground Press Syndicate). It combined poetry spirituality and multicultural interests with psychedelic design reflecting on the counter-cultural community. Many issues had ads for music and records. The Oracle is the most famous and collectible of any underground paper. Contributors included many significant San Francisco area artists including the late great Rick Griffin.
