PLEASE NOTE: This is the only AOR-3.2 Grade 10 listed in the CGC census. We have never seen at top graded CGC example of this Woodstock Wallkill poster in an auction ever before, until right NOW! What better way to celebrate the 55 year anniversary of Woodstock this month!
The experienced collectors we talk to are 100% convinced that posters that have somehow miraculously earned a 10.0 grade from CGC are exceedingly undervalued at current market levels. Their reasoning is simple but firmly grounded in reality. In every other certified collectibles marketplace, it’s COMMONPLACE for the absolute “Best of the Best” to command premiums of 10x, 20x or even 50x the next grade down. These types of premiums are universal and longstanding in regards to the values of rare coins, comic books, baseball cards and more. Independent authentication and grading of concert posters is still in its early days but premiums ARE growing as collectors from other fields are flowing into this marketplace! The Woodstock Music and Arts Fair is easily the most famous musical/cultural event of the 1960s. The festival was originally intended to be held in Wallkill, New York. Permits, however, were denied and the festival promoters had to find a new location just a month prior to the festival. The festival was then moved to Bethel, NY. The rest is history.
The original pre-concert first printing poster being offered here was designed for the original site by Fillmore East poster artist, David Byrd. It is much harder to track down than the other popular Woodstock Fest posters. Over the years, we have only come across a handful of them. Most were not CGC authenticated. Beat-up, heavily damaged, non-CGC examples in much lower quality condition than this specimen here, have traded hands up to $700 in our past auctions.
About a year and a half ago, we auctioned a lower 9.6 CGC graded example of this poster for $2,880.00. This rare TOP QUALITY 10.0 graded condition lot offers a great opportunity!
