This Great Highway Original Handbill was designed by artist Randy Tuten and featured Commander Cody & His Lost Plant Airmen, Osceola and Southern Comfort for a 3-day run of shows in early May 1970. The music community lost one of it's unique talents in 2021 when George Frayne IV, alias Commander Cody left this world after a half century of performing his rare style of roots rock.
Approximately seven months after The Family Dog was forced out of the Avalon Ballroom, Chet Helms opened up shop on the Great Highway. The site was at the former Edgewater Ballroom part of the Playland at the Beach complex. Due to budget constraints, relatively few posters were produced for the shows at 660 Great Highway. Mostly handbills like this one were used to promote those concerts and they were printed in small quantities.
