Grateful Dead concert posters are always amongst the most popular issues and this lot is no exception. This issue is sure to receive enthusiastic bidder attention. Artist Micael Priest designed three Dead posters for this venue in Austin Texas, this being the first (the other two from 1981 and 1982 you have seen in our auctions previously). The one-eye Cyclops skull image was also used (without the Lone Ranger hat) on the reverse of the 1977 Terrapin Station album art released in July.

Deadheads across the globe will agree that 1977 was an amazing era for the band and they played some of their best-sounding concerts during that year. This show in Austin was hot and the Dead barreled straight out of the gate opening the first set with a smoking version of the Chuck Berry cover “Promised Land”. This original Manor Downs poster is extremely RARE and much harder to find (in ANY condition) than the other two Micael Priest designed Austin posters.

Artist Micael Priest got his start working with underground comix artist Jim Franklin years prior and he took over as art director of the Vulcan Gas Company after Gilbert Shelton moved to San Francisco. When the Vulcan closed and the Armadillo World Headquarters opened, Priest became a member of "The Armadillo Art Squad", designing posters for the venue regularly. His work in the Austin scene is legendary.

Condition Details: Creases, pinholes, tear bottom left edge, stain and tape pull on reverse.
