This poster was used to promote a slew of Spring 1972 shows at the Capitol Theatre. Performers included the amazing Mahavishnu Orchestra with John McLaughlin, Malo, and the Allman Brothers Band. The Allman Brothers were touring continuously in 1972 following the release of their third album "Eat A Peach", which had been released just months before. The band tragically lost guitarist Duane Allman the year prior. The show advertised here was postponed and actually occurred on July 14th.
During the 1970s and early 1980s, The famous Capitol Theatre in Passaic became a popular venue for a whole laundry list of major rock artists. Promoter John Scher worked diligently to bring a steady flow of talent to the 3,200-seat theater. The venue was also known for its in-house video system, which resulted in many good-quality black-and-white videos years later. It closed its doors and was demolished in 1991, but has remained one of the most legendary venues in rock music history.
