During the 1960’s a small group of students began promoting psychedelic and Blues concerts in the Austin area. They were originally known as the Electric Grandmother and later became the Vulcan Gas Company and eventually opened a venue under the same name.

The Vulcan Gas posters are Big Bright and Beautiful with much of the series being very large compared to the San Francisco dance hall posters. They are striking when seen in person images on the web just cant so these beauties justice.

Gilbert Shelton the famed underground comix artist who was responsible for the beloved Fabulous Furry Freak Brother Wonder Wart Hog and The Adventures of Fat Freddie’s Cat was also the art director for the Vulcan Gas company and created several posters for the Austin Texas Venue.

This poster for a week of show at the Vulcan in April of 1968 is one of the most popular among collectors the use of fluorescent ink and bizarre collage makes this one a knockout.

This poster measures a very large 21 6/16” x 26 3/4 ” and wonderful. This poster exhibits a ¾” lower right corner bump and couple of handling marks on the bottom edge. Considering the size of this poster these flaws hardly make a difference. There are no nicks tears pinholes or restoration of any kind.
