This original first printing poster designed by the noted underground comix artist / Texas concert poster artist Jim Franklin, announced Willie Nelson's FIRST annual 4th of July Picnic! The festival took place at the Hurlbut Ranch in Dripping Springs, Texas on July 4th, 1973. The stacked lineup featured Waylon Jennings, Rita Coolidge, Kris Kristofferson, Doug Sahm, Sammie Smith and more performing alongside Willie himself! The event attracted an estimated attendance of 40,000 people, and became an annual festival. Before the concert, the Texas Senate Resolution 687 proclaimed July 4th as "Willie Nelson Day". Through the years, the festival has been held in different locations in Texas due to logistics. This is the FIRST example of this FIRST event concert poster to ever appear in our auction!
