The Grateful Dead closed out 1969 with a three-night run in Boston at the Boston Tea Party. The Tea Party was THE venue that hosted all of the greats from the era. This was the only time the Dead ever played a New Year's run outside of California.

Grateful Dead issues from 1969 are hot, as it was a pivotal year for the band. They recorded and released Live Dead and Aoxomoxoa, played at Woodstock and Altamont, and were ready to move on musically, morphing from Psychedelic Electric Blues heroes into a roots-rock-country-folk songwriting machine. This golden era of the Dead would not only provide us with “Workingman’s Dead” and “American Beauty”, but also “Garcia” and “Ace”. Not to mention, they collectively penned most of the music on Europe 72. It was truly the best of both worlds and a historic time for the Dead in every respect.
