This rare, original handbill was designed by Jack Jaxon for the Vulcan Gas Company appearances of blues icon John Lee Hooker and Shiva's Headband in early 1969. The reverse of this handbill exhibits a letter explaining the club's membership card policy and the new card requirement for the coming spring. This is the only handbill Jaxon designed for the Vulcan Gas Company in the entire series. Jaxon also created FD-114 The Fugs Avalon poster, however he had already become a noteworthy cartoonist by being a co-founder of the famous Rip Off Press. Many consider him to be one of the very first underground comix artists. Material for the Vulcan Gas Company in Austin Texas is some of the most desirable and valuable in the entire genre of Psychedelic Concert art. Very few of these unique and fragile handbills remain available today in ANY condition.
