This original poster was created for a benefit for the San Francisco Krishna Temple and featured performances by The Grateful Dead, Big Brother, Moby Grape and readings by famed beat poet Allen Ginsburg. The artwork was created by Harvey Cohen, one of the first ISKCON devotees, inspired by the work of Stanley Mouse. This event was organized by followers of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.

This gig happened only two weeks after the seminal "Gathering of the Tribes for a Human Be-In" in Golden Gate Park. Counter culture luminaries like Timothy Leary, Augustus Owsley Stanley III, and Allen Ginsberg ramped up the popularity of the event. Tim Leary dubbed the event "a beautiful night", and later on Ginsberg called the Mantra-Rock Dance "the height of Haight-Ashbury spiritual enthusiasm, the first time that there had been a music scene in San Francisco where everybody could be part of it and participate". The Mantra-Rock Dance concert was later labeled "the ultimate high" and "THE major spiritual event of the San Francisco hippie era".
