This original handbill is signed by the artist, the late great Bonnie MacLean!
Here is an original variant BG-43 handbill created by Bonnie MacLean - completely different and unlike the more recognized Wes Wilson design for this issue.
This MacLean monochromatic version is not featured in the Art of Rock book or Eric King's guide however Mister King does mention it when discussing the Wes Wilson BG-43's. King suggests in his guide that it is possible Wes Wilson was late delivering the design for his posters & handbills to the printer. In turn Bonnie created these alternate versions to promote the shows - as this difficult-to-locate variant has been confirmed a Pre-Concert Original Printing!
This handbill was created for the incomparable Otis Redding at the Fillmore. The legendary Stax-Volt singer made his only Fillmore appearance for three nights in December of 1966. There was a different opening act each night. The Grateful Dead was the opening act on the first night of the Otis Redding concerts.
Artist Bonnie MacLean's passing made headlines around the world due to her fabulous body of work and contribution to the hobby. This international recognition underscores the desirability of this lot. Bonnie was married to Bill Graham and managed the art department for the Fillmore. She was one of the most prominent artists in the Fillmore series!
