The first appearance of this scarce SLC Punk concert poster in a PAE auction, ever! Produced to promote The Atheists, The Boards, 004, Modern Hygiene and Nightmare in Wax appearing at Tammy's Bar & Grill in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 19 & 20, and 26 & 27, 1981 weekends. The 3rd gig at this location drew in a hostile biker crowd that didn't take kindly to "Atheists" & "Punks", so June 26th & 27th were the last concert dates at this location since several potential fights were narrowly avoided.
This poster features a curious cartoon strip produced by Kent Maxwell, or someone else associated with Dr. David Brothers (of "Church of Jane Mansfield" fame, featured on a SLC radio station) and the members of Nightmare in Wax. Therer are photos arranged in sequence of a male and female elementary student playing with various electric, magnetic and misc. scientific toys with some added lines by the artist of this piece, along with standard rub-off lettering between each sequence of four panels with the names of the bands and the venue info, as well as "Hypnotize your friends then turn complete control over to you" under the bottom two strips. This low print run poster is Ultra Scarce, and had poor distribution.
The Atheists and The Boards were two of the mainstay, early 80s Punk Rock bands that gigged almost every weekend at The Roxy for almost two years, until the Easter Weekend shows in late April of 1981, attended by a group of American Atheists along with MADALYN MURRAY O'HAIR herself, who were having an American Atheist conference in Salt Lake City that particular weekend. After that, the owners of The Roxy decided they would no longer have punk music in their establishment (one of the owners was a Catholic), which was located on Main Street in downtown Salt Lake City. Eventually, the bands found this all too temporary location at Tammy's Bar & Grill, located far enough away from the main part of downtown Salt Lake.
