This RARE handbill is appearing for the FIRST time in our auction! The San Francisco Palace of Fine Arts Festival was held August 30 & 31 through September 1 & 2 1968 and was promoted as a Haight-Ashbury Medical Clinic benefit. The Dead Big Brother and Santana were some of the top performers. Only the handbills for this event listed the bands which were appearing on different days of this four-day festival (featured in the Art of Rock book on page 205 plates 2.237 through 2.239). All the AOR images feature the same imagery of the Palace interior architecture. We've sold the poster for this 3-day event (AOR-2.237) but we have never offered any of the handbills. The 3 handbills associated with this 3-day festival are pictured in the AOR book on page 205, plates 2.237–2.239. The one offered here was produced to promote the 3rd day (2.239), featuring The Grateful Dead & Monday afternoon lineup.
We are excited to finally be able to offer one of these scarce original handbills. In our 13+ years of auctioning vintage concert material, this CGC authenticated treasure is finally available! We expect to see much spirited bidding on this relic during this auction, and bidding will likely heat up at the countdown ending as well. Be prepared!
