Wow! The historical significance and scarcity allow a piece like this be a world class collectible and we couldn’t be more pleased to offer this CGC graded example of such a rare gem in our auction! Here we have an original early Grateful Dead handbill for the Tour Del Mar Bicycle Race & Folk-Rock Festival in 1966. The event has held at the IDES Hall in Pescadero California. The IDES Society (Sociedade Da Irmindade do Divino Espirito Santo) was a Portugese American Fraternal Benefit Society. There were numerous IDES halls around the Bay Area, and they were often available for rental for local rock shows. Little is known about this three day billing and there are no audio recordings or set list information about the Dead’s performances. A real sign of the times quote toward the bottom of the handbill reads "Trip on out to the Happenings and Dig the Action!". VERY FEW handbills and posters were made for this festival, so this specimen is highly sought after by collectors in ANY condition! Over three years ago, another example of this handbill sold for $1,680.00 in our auction.
