This is just the second CGC Graded example of this seldom-seen Grateful Dead handbill to appear in our auction! Approximately seven months after The Family Dog was forced out of the Avalon Ballroom Chet Helms opened up shop on the Great Highway. The site was at the former Edgewater Ballroom part of the Playland at the Beach complex.
Due to budget constraints relatively few posters were produced for the shows at 660 Great Highway. Mostly handbills were used to promote those concerts and they were printed in small quantities. Here the Dead the New Riders and Commander Cody are featured for this 2-day run of shows in August 1969. The third date on the handbill featured Gravity and Devil's Kitchen. We previously sold an example that was also graded a 9.6 in February 2021 for $450!
