This vintage, large sized headshop poster from 1967 exhibits the famous iconic photograph of Chinese Communist Party leader Mao Zedong, otherwise known as Chairman Mao. His policies resulted in the death of tens of millions of people in China during his 27 years of political reign. In August and September 1966, there were almost 2,000 people murdered by the Red Guards in Beijing. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, many young Americans and students had strong feelings about Mao's policies and actions, which was a direct result of the peace and love hippie movement already happening at the time. Mao would also be mentioned in rock songs of the era, like Little Feat's Apolitical Blues and others.
