1962 Little Richard Sam Cooke Adelphi Cinema Slough Handbill Excellent 71

This original handbill ticket order form was produced for Little Richard & Sam Cooke and their appearance at the Adelphi Cinema in Slough England on October 20st 1962. WHAT A LINEUP! Little Richard AND Sam Cooke on the same bill!

The late great Little Richard had already blossomed into an exciting career by the early 1960's. In 1962 his concert promoter Don Arden persuaded him to tour Europe after telling him his records were still selling well there. With fellow singer Sam Cooke as an opening act Little Richard embarked on the large tour - including this show in London - with a very young teenage Billy Preston in his band.

Little Richard's dynamic "Long Tall Sally" was setting fire to those in attendance of these shows and Sam Cooke was riding on the success of his hit singles "Cupid" and "Twistin the Night Away" (the latter listed on this handbill above his name). Sam Cooke is often referred to as The King of Soul and he had a short but notable career as a singer and composer contributing to popular music. The circumstances around his sad death 2 years later are - to this day - still a subject of speculation.
