The Clash was without a doubt a major leader in the British punk rock and New Wave movements of the late seventies and early eighties. This original cardboard poster was produced for the band playing at the Long Beach Arena on January 24th, 1984. Also on the bill was legendary punk impresario Malcolm McLaren performing his "hip-hop punk rock", and the great east LA rock band Los Lobos. This poster was printed by Colby Poster.
The historic Colby Poster Printing Company produced promotional material between 1948 and 2012 and they became legendary for their signature fluorescent inks and bold all-caps typography although none of the original staff had any formal design training. They were members of the letterpress union the screen printers union and the typesetters union.
