We are pleased to offer this amazing UN-IMPROVABLE specimen of one of THE classic Grateful Dead concert posters from the 1960’s. This is also the first CGC graded example to ever appear at public auction. An entire page in the Art of Rock is devoted to this spectacular poster page 287.
In late January and early February of 1968 The Grateful Dead and Quicksilver Messenger Service set out on a tour of the Pacific Northwest. The Tour was dubbed the Quick and the Dead and six different posters showing the six different venues were issued. The posters designed by George Hunter of The Charlatans featured a unique distressed “Wild West” motif that is very popular with collectors.
While the artwork may portray distressed the poster itself is anything but. Quite the contrary. This poster is absolutely flawless and superb in every way. It is a miracle that it has survived in this pristine state of preservation for the past 49 years. Pinholed damaged copies of this poster from various venues on the tour routinely bring around $3500. The high water mark for this poster was recorded on 9/8/16 when a poster promoting the Crystal Ballroom show in Portland Oregon brought $10 914. That poster was NOT CGC graded and certified but it was cataloged as being “in beautiful Near Mint condition."
The poster here is graded a jaw dropping 9.8. It is un-improvable and will always enjoy top demand from that breed of collectors where only the best will do! A Blue Chip poster if there ever was one!
