We are pleased to offer this beautiful poster, featured in The Art of Rock Plate #4.156. This show was played in a tiny Salt Lake City ballroom at the University Of Utah for a few hundred lucky fans. The Dead performed their classic experimental narrative of Dark Star, Saint Stephen, The Eleven, Lovelight in the second set of this concert. When it comes to vintage concert posters that are in demand, you can't get better than the Grateful Dead!
Artwork by Richard Winn Taylor, one of the two major light show creators of "Rainbow Jam" Lights, and later on art director for the first TRON movie. This concert was an "SDS Ball", an event promoted by the local branch of "Students for a Democratic Society", a major leftist organization which pulled together a great many Vietnam War protests across the entire country back in the day. The pre-concert print run of this first printing was only 300 copies!
This special example is a "mutant" press glitch pre-concert poster printing! Since the original (pre-concert) test press run produced a few "mutant" press proof posters like this one (extremely limited in number, most likely in the single digits, our consignor has only seen two thus far), with the difficult to spot "color disruptions" in the rainbow, guitar, etc., thus this variant is a whole lot scarcer than the standard versions of the original concert poster, of which there were only 300 printed prior to the concert date.
Condition Details: Water damage, staining.
