Get ready for records to be shattered! This beautiful image is considered the most desirable and valuable Randy Tuten Grateful Dead poster from the BG series.  More importantly the “monochrome” version of this poster the one offered here is exceedingly rare and highly sought after. In fact many collectors believe this poster is the rarest BG poster out there after the BG1 BG2 and BG74.

This is just the SECOND example of this rarity to appear at public auction that has been independently graded and authenticated by CGC. We sold the other a heavily damaged CGC graded 7.0 example that was NOT signed for $2772 on 2/12/17. That copy had 10 sets of staple holes and a tear. Obviously that poster is in a different universe quality wise than the 9.6 example offered here.

This is also just the FIFTH BG 222 MONO to appear in ANY CONDITION- at public auction in the past 10 years! The best non CGC graded example we could track was a cataloged as being in “excellent condition” with ”paper imperfections” that brought $6600 on 11/16.

The lot offered here is obviously a candidate for Finest Known. It is superb in all respects with no evident flaws. The corners are razor sharp and the paper is crisp and fresh. There may be an equal or nicer copy out there but until it is independently authenticated and graded as such we remain unconvinced. If you are the collector of truly special museum quality items this sure to be the highlight of your collection. A truly priceless collectible that will surely be even more rewarding to own with each passing year.

If the extreme rarity and un-improvable condition were not enough this poster has incredible historical importance. This famous event was a benefit to raise legal defense funds for the Dead after their infamous 1970 New Orleans bust where they were “busted down on Bourbon Street.”
