This is the First Appearance of this Ultra Mega Rare FD-D18 Press Proof card in a PAE auction! Since the test press runs that produced "mutant" press proof handbills like this one were very limited in number, this variant is a light year scarcer than the standard versions of the full color & completed postcards. Another example of this Press Proof blank back card sold in another online auction for $727.63 during February of 2020.
Blank back handbill printed on card stock with a blank back side. This "mutant" handbill was printed as a press proof at the time of the original printing of the posters and cards, so it has a green background with black printing of the imagery and lettering created by the quintessential psychedelic concert poster artist, Rick Griffin.
These December 1967 concerts held at 1601 West Evans Street in Denver were the last Denver Dog concerts directly involving the Family Dogs' promotion, since they had lost a lot of their working capital on the Denver series of concerts they had produced. These final FD Denver shows were held December 29-31, 1967, featuring The Doors, Allmen Joy & Gingerbred Blu. Just a few months before these New Year's concert dates, the Doors 2nd hit LP, STRANGE DAYS was released.
This internationally popular Rick Griffin Doors image appears in most concert poster books featuring posters from the Sixties. It was produced during the peak of Rick Griffin's quintessential psychedelic poster artwork period, produced just about a month prior to his epic Jimi Hendrix Flying Eyeball Fillmore design, and has already carved out its place as one of THE epitome of the most intense Doors concert images ever produced.
