1956 Billie Holiday Lady Sings the Blues Program

We are pleased to offer this early, original concert program in this auction. On November 10, 1956 the great Billie Holiday performed two incredible concerts before packed audiences at Carnegie Hall in New York City. This concert program from the event includes photos and writing from Nat Hentoff. The shows featured Gilbert Millstein as narrator interspersed among Holiday's songs. Beginning with her birth in Baltimore Millstein read several passages from her autobiography "Lady Sings the Blues". These were some of Billie Holiday's most famous concerts. Live recordings of the second Carnegie Hall concert were released a few years later.
