Austin Texas has a rich musical tradition dating back to the 1930’s. Often spoken of in the same breath with Nashville and New Orleans Austin is considered a American sweet spot of musical collaboration and innovation. During the 1960’s a small group of students began promoting Psychedelic and Blues concerts in the Austin area. They were originally known as the Electric Grandmother later they became the Vulcan Gas Company and eventually opened a venue under the same name. The Vulcan Gas Co. was responsible for a wonderful series of concert posters that are scarce big and beautiful. The poster being offered here is the third in the Vulcan Gas Co. series and advertised a very early Electric Grandmother production that featured psychedelic pioneers 13th Floor Elevators at the City Coliseum on February 10 1967. This poster was produced in very low quantities and measures 14 7/32 x 21 30/32” This piece is in incredible condition. There is a small light band of toning on the bottom edge that measure ¼ “. Other than that there are no holes bends folds or missing paper. Great early Texas poster!
