The Winterland Arena, originally an ice skating rink founded in 1928, began it's quest in serving the exploding music scene in San Francisco on September 23rd, 1966 with a double bill of Jefferson Airplane and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, booked by the one and only, Bill Graham. With the closing of Fillmore Auditorium, renovations for Winterland commenced in 1971 and was converted to a full music venue. In 1978, Winterland was permanently closed, leaving some of it's most important history from thrill-seeking shows in its profoundly necessary show programs with iconic art of its psychedelic world to match.
NOVEMBER 1970 Program - First Printing, features cover art by R. Tuten and back cover with a black and white image of Janis Joplin. The 14 page insides boast variations of red and black, including Editorials of "The San Francisco Scene" as well as ads and interviews for artists such as Steve Miller Band, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Roxie, Country Joe McDonald, Chambers Bros and the Guess Who.
OCTOBER 1970 Program - First Printing, features cover art by R. Tuten and back cover with a black and image of Jimi Hendrix. The 14 page insides in orange and black include articles like "On the Line..." and interviews with artists Jefferson Airplane & the Grateful Dead, Hot Tuna & the New Riders of the Purple Sage, Mason & Cass, Ike & Tina Turner and Spirit to name a few.
