Though this trippy poster is in the style of pro-drug headshop posters it is actually an anti-drug use propaganda poster that was created by the U.S. Department of Health Education and Welfare in 1969. It lists various drugs in a psychedelic font and asks the question "Will they turn you on or will they turn on you?". This was the government's attempt to use the hip psychedelic art style to encourage kids to abstain from drugs rather than take them. Along the bottom right-hand corner it reads "this poster and facts about drug abuse are available for free from the national institute of mental health P.O. Box 1080 Washington D.C. 20013." This is a fascinating piece of history showing the point of view that the U.S. government held as the counterculture movement gained in popularity. Additionally, this piece changes color and glows under a blacklight.
