We are pleased to offer this limited edition airbrushed painting by Rick Griffin of San Francisco guitar legend, John Cipollina. Cipollina was the fire behind Quicksilver Messenger Service, a highly regarded band from the Haight Ashbury community of the 60s. Rick was chosen to make the album art for the band's first album and the two were reportedly close friends. This image was created for a memorial concert to honor Cipollina at the Fillmore following his death in 1989.

Near the end of his years on this planet, Rick Griffin worked on a series of hand-painted limited editions like this. The paintings used hand-cut stencils that were reused to paint the main elements of the design. Detail work was later added to create completely unique pieces within an edition. PAE has bought and sold a handful of similar acrylic Griffin paintings over the years but we have never handled the Cipollina before. The black and white poster shows up in our auction but the color takes this piece to an entirely different level.

Edition # 5/25!
