This poster is from Margo's personal collection. The St. James Estate needed to part with items to cover her medical expenses. This is the last item we have to auction out of the collection we received from the estate.
Last year Margo St. James passed away at the age of 83. This super rare original poster was created to promote the FIRST annual Masquerade Ball held at the legendary Longshoreman's Hall on October 27th 1974. Created by Artist Jim Alles and Graphic Design by David Willis. Performers listed include The Pointer Sisters Linda Lovelace Tommy Smothers guest speakers belly dancers and more. This is the FINEST CONDITION example of this poster to ever appear in our auction.
In the 1970's the self-described prostitute and sex-positive feminist was the founder of the COYOTE organization (Call Off Your Old Tired Ethics) which advocated decriminalization of prostitution. Fund raising involved an annual hosting of the well-attended Hooker's Masquerade Ball.
