The handbill features artwork by Terre', the Charlatans road manager for a short period of time. Measures 4 9/16 x 6 9/16, Commonly referred to as P-4 in the Family Dog numbered Portland series - Ultra Mega Rare in top museum quality shape!
A large horizontal poster for this gig was also printed with a small print run, with the same artwork & colors, possibly as few as 500 copies.
This was one of the last few concerts of The Charlatans before they broke up in April of 1968, due to worsening conflicting attitudes, leading Dan Hicks to form his new band. Museum quality copies of this handbill are extremely scarce.
Printed on slick white cannery label stock, after hours at a local cannery, since someone had an inside connection, which was necessary due to the shoestring budget for promotion of the gig, due to the large Family Dog budgeting losses from the Denver Dog series of concerts.
This handbill represents the fourth and final Family Dog numbered item in the series of Portland shows, commonly referred to as P-4. Coleman Whitey Davis (RIP), working out of Chet Helms' Office, who had been managing THE FOLKSINGER (which was eventually transformed into Caffe Espresso) an underage coffeehouse located in southwest Portland in the 60s, reconnected with Chet Helms at the Family Dog office to both enlarge the size of the audiences for acts he had been booking as well as to help expand on the Family Dog's venue offerings / multiple gigs for bands in their attempt to compete with Bill Graham's ability to offer bands multiple gig appearances at his various venues.
