In the 1970s, self-described prostitute and sex-positive feminist, Margo St. James, was the founder of the COYOTE organization (Call Off Your Old Tired Ethics), which advocated decriminalization of prostitution. Fund raising involved an annual hosting of the well-attended Hooker's Ball, which gathered thousands of attendees through the seventies and beyond.
