Here we are presenting an extremely scarce if not one of a kind offering. This is the blue progressive uncut proof sheet of what many collectors consider to be the “Holy Grail” of all Psychedelic concert posters.
Rick Griffins Hawaii Aoxomoxoa was produced to promote a three day run at the Honolulu International Center with the Grateful Dead & It’s a beautiful Day in July of 1969. The reason that so few of these posters exist in any condition is that the show was cancelled and the promoter never paid the printer for his work. As a result the entire print run was destroyed. According to legend the only copies that survived were those that the artist personally rescued from destruction.
Uncut proof sheets of the Hawaiian Aoxomoxoa are one of the hardest finds in all poster collecting and there are only a handful of the progressive proofs . We believe that this is the only one in this color.
This poster is in amazingly great condition. The poster Measures 22 ½ x 28 9⁄16 and exhibits only the following minor flaws. There is a ½” corner bump in the lower right corner an even fainter corner bump in the bottom left corner a small handling pinch on the upper right-hand side and the faintest 2” area of edge roughness on the left. There are no nicks cuts tears pinholes or restoration of any kind.
In addition the late artist in gold ink signs this proof. This piece would be a welcome addition to any collection.
