This poster is signed by the artist, Robert E. Brown! We have here a striking Moody Blues original poster from Salt Lake City. Artist Robert Brown's work in the 60's appeared in Yellow Dog Comix and Promethean Enterprises. This was Brown's first concert poster, as well as his first poster produced for the Terrace Ballroom. The Terrace Ballroom would come to host shows in the sixties and seventies by popular bands like The Jefferson Airplane, Pink Floyd, Moby Grape, Spirit, Steppenwolf, Big Brother (with Janis), Santana, and more. Only 500 copies of this Moody Blues poster, produced for the first concert promoted by Tape Head Company (THC), were printed prior to the concert date of April 1, 1970, which makes them extremely rare these days, in ANY condition. A same graded signed example of this issue realized $298 in our auction on June 7th 2018. Artist Rob Brown designed this beautiful image for this Salt Lake show, his first concert poster. Brown did illustration work during the late 60's for SF Bay Area publications like YELLOW DOG COMICS #15 underground comix strip, and several one pagers for PROMETHEAN ENTERPRISES (An underground comic fanzine that featured the work of R. Crumb, Rick Griffin, Victor Moscoso, Robert Williams, Spain Rodriguez, Rick Shubb, Bob Zoell and others). In addition, he created multiple front covers and strips for the BERKELEY BARB (an infamous & notorious S.F. Bay Area underground newspaper in the late 60's). He is also noted for authoring & illustrating the incredible "Dragon World" full color children's book in 2005, featuring 68 paintings of unique Dragons of all sorts. As you can see, an image of Mickey Mouse's head is featured at the top center image area of this poster. The company that promoted this Terrace Ballroom concert was later told by Disney Productions to "cease & desist" from using the unmistakable likeness of Mickey Mouse on their posters & promotions, such as this one. Graeme Edge, drummer and co-founding member of the Moody Blues, just recently passed away at the age of 80 and this poster carries on that legacy.
