This poster, known as The Rock and Roll Ball, is for the second Family Dog show put on by Rifkin & Scully, and features artwork by George Hunter of The Charlatans. After this show, Chet would partner up with Bill Graham, to start producing shows at the Fillmore. Chet put forth some of the Family Dog crew as a production force, but ultimately lost control over the venue, bands, and the power to run things as he saw fit. Chet then shook free of Graham and found his own venue for dance concerts, the Avalon Ballroom. This brief phase of the Family Dog was done, after just 2 shows at California Hall.

This incredible Museum Piece is a quintessential George Hunter design, subtly psychedelic, wryly humorous, and stylized as is George's forte in general ... a real early FD classic. The Charlatans, though not necessarily identifying themselves as a "Family Dog band", were in the heart of the "Dog House" social network, housing, and schemes, and were intertwined with the Family Dog more than any other band than possibly Big Brother.

This poster is a big deal item. We are aware of maybe 20 specimens that have surfaced over the past 50+years in ANY condition. On the rare occasion that one surfaces, they are generally really thrashed. The condition of this lot it is about as nice as this issue gets.
