The Trips festival was the first major psychedelic event held in the San Francisco in the sixties. The posters and fliers from the event are some of the most highly sought after paper collectibles from the era.
1965 introduced several groundbreaking events that shaped the San Francisco scene. In June of 1965 there was the Charlatans run at the Red Dog Saloon followed closely by the Acid Tests the Family Dog’s early shows and Bill Grahams Mime Troupe Benefits’. It was not until January of 1966 that these groups came together and produced " The Trips festival." Conceived by Stewart Brand organized by Bill Graham and fueled by Owsley the Trips Festival was essentially an Acid Test on a larger more public scale. However this three-day immersion course in the psychedelic experience sparked the events that closely followed most significantly the opening of the Fillmore Auditorium and Avalon Ballroom as Rock music venues.
The Trips Festival also was the one of the very first event advertisements designed by Wes Wilson. The posters and handbills are among the most scarce and valuable collectibles from the era and are nearly impossible to find in any condition.
