The Grateful Dead’s final concert at Winterland Arena is one of the high water marks in bands fabled history. The converted ice skating rink was Bill Graham’s “go-to” venue for large-scale performances in San Francisco. Winterland hosted a record-setting 62 Grateful Dead shows in its lifetime. The poster offered here was created for the final performance at the legendary venue. Concert Poster masters Mouse and Kelley were chosen to create the final tribute for this much-anticipated event which fell on New Year’s Eve 1978. The duo came through with one of their greatest collaborations. The "Blue Rose" is an essential poster in any Grateful Dead collection. San Francisco’s hometown heroes’ rose to the occasion that night. The band pulled out all the stops for 3 sets of music that are considered among the Dead’s finest performances of all time. The beloved “Blue Rose” has also crossed into legendary status in the poster collecting world. This is a poster whose sales trajectory has skyrocketed in the past few years. When 3rd party grading was introduced to the rock poster world, this poster took off. In our Labor Day 2021 graded poster sale, a CGC 9.8 sold for a record-breaking $6000! In this sale we are excited to offer another museum quality copy, this copy was signed in Gold ink by the late Alton Kelley and graded CGC 9.2!
