PAE is proud to present one of the most popular and beautiful Grateful Dead first printing concert posters ever created! Only the second CGC graded example of this OP-1 pre-concert first printing to appear in our auction. For this July 1967 Grateful Dead run of concerts in Vancouver poster artist Bob Masse pays homage to both art deco styling and classic pinup art.
On July 13th the Dead played at the P.N.E. Agradome with the Daily Flash & Love-In and on July 14th & 15th they were booked at Dante’s Inferno with The Collectors and Painted Ship. Deadbase only lists 7/13 as confirmed however other sources indicate the shows on the 14th & 15th took place as well. No recordings exist of the shows so there is some speculation about the dates. Nevertheless this poster has gone down in history as one of the most popular Dead posters from the 1960s. It has been reprinted in later artist editions due to its beauty but THIS example is the scarce first printing!
PLEASE NOTE: Don't let the 6.5 grade fool you. The front of this poster looks amazing! The super strict third-party grading on this specimen occurred because of tape and tape pulls on the reverse of the poster which has little effect on the front surface of the piece. (See photos) Recently this year another example of this first printing poster not certified by CGC sold in the five-figure range in another public auction. If that poster had been authenticated and graded by CGC it would likely have sold for multiples of what it reached based on today's record-breaking CGC realized prices! This lot has opportunity written all over it!
