This A/P poster is numbered 7/10 signed by Peter Gabriel and the artist the late great famous Hipgnosis designer Storm Thorgerson!
We are thrilled to offer the collecting community this low number Artist's Proof giclée poster for the FIRST TIME in our auction! This unique Peter Gabriel piece features the cover art design from his 1978 second solo album. The design was created by the legendary Hipgnosis artist Storm Thorgerson. Storm designed the first 3 Gabriel solo record covers known by fans as "Car" "Scratch" (this one here) and "Melt". Thorgerson also is well known in the world of Pink Floyd by designing almost every album cover in the band's entire catalog. Storm passed away in 2013.
Peter Gabriel recalls of the 1978 photo shoot: “The artwork was done with Hipgnosis. We did this in New York and it was cold and snowy. Storm had the idea of the nails tearing away at the paper of the image.” The original photo was found many years later and in 2009 large giclée prints were produced by Senecio Press in a small limited edition of 99. Along with those produced ten of these Artist's Proofs were also printed then apparently taken to Storm’s house in Hampstead & signed on his dining room table. This special MASSIVE SIZED low run numbered artist's proof is 7 of only 10 produced! Best of all it's DOUBLE SIGNED by both Peter Gabriel and Storm Thorgerson!
