This is the FIRST example of this super rare item to appear in our auction! Here we have an original invitation to the Wake for Janis Joplin scheduled on October 26th 1970 at the historic Lion's Share club 60 Red Hill Road in San Anselmo California. Joplin had died a few weeks earlier on October 4th.
Legend has it that she left $2 500 in her Will to be used to throw a big party in the unexpected event of her death. The Wake was a celebration of her life & love for music and over 200 people showed up - including friends family colleagues and musicians (members of The Grateful Dead Big Brother and others).
The location at The Lion's Share was selected as the proper venue for this celebration of her life because of the rich history Joplin had with the club and performing there previously. This Wake Invitation is 100% Original and Authentic. VERY FEW have surfaced over the years in other auctions. An amazing piece of history and in INCREDIBLE CONDITION!
