This is a rare original handbill that advertised a run of Blue Cheer shows at the Matrix in ’67. The San Francisco Acid Rock band Blue Cheer was one of the great bands of the era. They were unapologetically powerful and loud. Their take on Eddie Cochran’s “Summertime Blues” is the quintessential version of the song.
The Matrix was an early club that hosted many Blues and folk acts along with the emerging San Francisco sound. Managed by the Airplane’s Marty Balin the matrix served as an early showcase for the band. Ads like this were distributed freely during the day but very few have survived. Original Handbills are RED HOT!
