This lot features a very scarce and desirable poster from the early years of the Grateful Dead. This well designed small run hand pulled silk-screen is a highly sought after relic from the band's rich 50 year history. This poster was printed in ridiculously low quantities. There were allegedly only 20 copies that were made by the student print shop at Washington University for this concert. According to accounts most of these were posted around the campus and many were destroyed by powerful storms that were in the area the day of the show.
There are a few variances in the run of this poster. This copy differs from the only other copy we have ever handled which had blue lettering and the Dead were in deep red. This copy gold lettering and the bands image in blue. Regardless small run Dead poster like this from the bands’ early days are very difficult to come by and fetch top dollar when offered publicly.
This poster has been in the possession of a member of the opening band since the concert.
This concert was during the Dead’s classic ‘69“Live Dead” line up that included and Tom Constanten on keyboards. A brief recollection of the concert can be found here; https://magazine.wustl.edu/2013/october/Pages/Live-at-Wash-U.aspx
