This rare Grateful Dead poster from December 12 1979 does not appear often in public auctions and this is the FIRST time we are offering it in a PAE auction! This rare piece advertises the Dead's appearance at the Indiana Convention center in Indianapolis. This was one of the band's final tour dates of 1979 rounding out an incredible decade in their history. The image seen on this poster is the same one that appeared on the cover of the Grateful Dead's eighth studio album Blues for Allah which had been released in 1975 four years prior to the concert advertised here. The image was painted in 1974 by artist Phillip Garris and is titled "The Fiddler". The artwork received a gold medal and an Award of Merit from the society of illustrators. It has gone down in history as one of the most well-loved images to be associated with the band.
The Grateful Dead have been the subject of more concert art than almost any other band in history and no collection would be complete without at least a few of their posters. This rare poster is 100% original with no restoration.
