PAE is pleased to present the very FIRST example of this long lost Original Handbill / Flyer to ever appear at public auction!

Here we are offering a very early original handbill produced to promote Bob Dylan at the Island Garden on February 26th 1966 in Hempstead / Long Island New York. This flyer was distributed before the concert through the mail with tickets to other Albert Grossman managed events like Judy Collins and Peter Paul & Mary. The two horizontal folds are the result of this handbill being inserted into an envelope at original distribution. This image is featured in the Art of Rock book as plate# 1.104. The photo of this flyer on Page 60 of the Art of Rock book is the only known photo of an original we are aware of other than this example you see here!

We have never seen this scarce flyer surface in any public auction ever before. Replicas and cheap pirates of this piece are plentiful and easy to find but the original first printings are beyond rare. In the collectibles marketplace there is rare and then there is IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND. There is desirable and then there is a chance of a LIFETIME! In original concert material there are great musical acts and then there is BOB DYLAN!

Dylan opened with an acoustic set that was followed by an electric set. All the concerts during this 1966 world tour contained electric sets similar to what Dylan shocked fans with at Newport the year prior. The musicians he employed as his backing band during the 1966 tour were known as "The Hawks". They subsequently became famous as THE BAND soonafter. The only exception was Levon Helm who was replaced during this US leg of the world tour by former Johnny Rivers drummer Mickey Jones.

The black & white photo of Dylan exhibited on this flyer taken by photographer Daniel Kramer was also used on some Dylan posters and promotional material produced for shows in October the year prior. SIDE NOTE: The pre-concert cardboard posters produced for this 1966 Island Garden concert actually featured a different image - the close up of Dylan's face with a cigarette clipped to the side of his harmonica holder (like the popular Norfolk February 12th 1966 handbill we have previously auctioned).

Rare Dylan handbills have always been coveted among collectors and the lot offered here is as rare as they come. The key to building a World Class collection is having the wherewithal to act when opportunity presents itself. Clearly this flyer represents an opportunity that may not present itself again - if ever - for MANY years to come.

When faced with this type of circumstance it's difficult to determine what current market value will be. That’s because sellers of this type of material are usually unwilling to leave the price realized up to market forces. They insist on selling privately - only if their price demands are met - to a network of insiders - never giving the general collecting public a fair chance to participate. This is not the case here and everyone will have the same fair chance to add this amazing rarity to their collection.
