| This Peace Rock Original Printing Handbill is only the second example we’ve ever offered of this issue. It shines in beautiful condition the finest we have ever handled! The design truly has one foot in the past and one foot in the future. Not the FINAL revised lineup however this version exhibits an updated lineup done closer to the show date. The Grateful Dead and Mystery Trend were scheduled to perform at this event but both bands cancelled and were replaced later by The Great Society and Big Brother. The Grateful Dead were in Los Angeles for the Watts Acid Test and Mystery Trend had just lost their guitarist. This handbill includes the Big Brother revision however it still includes The Mystery Trend in the lineup. By the time the show actually happened The Great Society replaced them and were added to the promotional material - including a band photo on the posters produced. Peter Bailey did the calligraphy on this handbill specimen as well as on the posters. Chet Helms was managing Big Brother around this time and The Wildflower were like folk beatniks from the early bay area psych-folkie scene. This piece has some great bands and has the sort of pedigree of Peter Bailey and the very early Fillmore posters (pre-Wes)... so it’s a very rare very early piece. The handbill also exhibits the Union Logo in the lower right corner and is very 50’s looking in many ways. There was a great degree of cooperation between some of the union printers and the politicos... the unions and democrats being super pro-labor at that point almost communist in ideology. We've handled millions of dollars of posters and handbills over the years and this example is the finest quality condition specimen to ever appear in our auction.
