Attention Grateful Dead fans! This original pre-concert printing Crystal Ballroom Handbill was produced in 1968 and an entire page in the Art of Rock book is devoted to this series of spectacular posters and handbills on page 287.

In late January and early February of 1968 The Grateful Dead and Quicksilver Messenger Service set out on a tour of the Pacific Northwest. The Tour was dubbed the Quick and the Dead and six different posters showing the six different venues were issued. The posters & handbills designed by George Hunter of The Charlatans featured a unique distressed “Wild West” motif that is very popular with collectors.

The Art of Rock notes that the creators of these handbills decided to take the "distressed" design of these ultra popular items one step further. A blowtorch was often used on many of them to create ragged burned edges as well. This variant from the Crystal Ballroom is among the most prized of all to collectors and although it was not burned like some of the other examples we have seen it holds up in remarkable condition.
