We are pleased to present this very early ultra rare and highly prized collectible -- the first example we have offered at auction in almost 5 years! Don’t let the term “Handbill” fool you. While most handbills are roughly 5 ½” x 8 1/2" this is actually a “mini poster” that measures approximently 12 3/8”x 15 19/32”. This is the highly sought after “A” version printed in full color on ultra thin white paper. It’s a miracle this piece has survived in this condition for over 50 years. You probably won’t have an opportunity to acquire a finer copy anytime soon.
The FD-5 has tremendous historical significance as it is the first Family Dog concert held at the Avalon Ballroom and the first artwork to feature the Family Dog slogan “May the baby Jesus shut your mouth and open your mind.” This beautiful Wes Wilson design is one of the most popular in the entire series. In November 2016 a lower 9.0 graded example reached $2 887 in our auction. This is only the second example with CGC grading we have ever offered. |
