We are pleased to offer this original poster for the 1963 Monterey Jazz Festival created by artist Earl Newman. Newman created an entire catalog of artwork and posters for the legendary Festival between 1963 to 2012 many on display at the Smithsonian. This is the FIRST poster the artist designed for the series and it features the image of jazz trumpet player Joe Gordon from Dizzy Gillespie's band.

The 1963 Festival founded by San Francisco jazz radio broadcaster Jimmy Lyons was historic in its own rite - showcasing the great Miles Davis   Dizzy Gillespie the Dave Brubeck Quartet Herbie Hancock Thelonious Monk and many more! We cannot emphasize enough how scarce this poster is. Coupled with the significance of the event this lot bound to attract attention from jazz collectors around the world. How many of these posters could possibly be available to the collecting public? Our guess is not many.
