| This poster is from Margo's personal collection. The St. James Estate needed to part with items to cover her medical expenses. Earlier this year Margo St. James passed away at the age of 83. This rare poster designed by David Wills is completely different from the other design featured in the Art of Rock (designed by Robert Gotsch) for this 1978 Cow Palace event. In the 1970's the self-described prostitute and sex-positive feminist was the founder of the "COYOTE" organization (Call Off Your Old Tired Ethics) which advocated decriminalization of prostitution. Fund raising involved an annual hosting of the well-attended Hooker's Ball the 5th of which gathered 20 000 attendees in 1978 at the historic Cow Palace. Performers listed include Nick Gravenites Merl Saunders Sarah Baker Lee Michaels Pete Sears Tim Hardin and more. This is the first example of this poster to appear in our auction.
