The Vancouver Pop Festival happened to take place shortly after Woodstock and the event seemed to have problems from the start. Bikers in attendance provided an uncomfortable "avoid taking hallucinogens" vibe. To make matters worse due to problems with paid attendance only some of the bands listed performed.
Legend states the Grateful Dead did not perform however the Dead biographer Blair Jackson disputed this. It has been speculated the Dead performed on the 24th and took the gig to move on from their poor performance at the Woodstock festival a week earlier.
