| A treasure of staggering historical importance rarity and quality! This is only the third time a CGC Graded example of this original handbill has appeared in our auction and this 9.6 example is in the FINEST QUALITY CONDITION we've handled! The Trips festival was one of the first major psychedelic events held in the San Francisco in the 1960's. As such the fliers from the event are some of the most highly sought after collectibles from the era. Unsurpassed Historical Importance - It all started mid 1965 with the Charlatans' run at the Red Dog Saloon followed closely by the Acid Tests the Family Dog’s early shows and Bill Graham's Mime Troupe Benefits. It was not until January of 1966 that these groups came together and produced "The Trips festival." Conceived by Stewart Brand organized by Bill Graham and fueled by Owsley – the Trips Festival was essentially an Acid Test on a larger more public scale. However this three-day immersion course in the psychedelic experience sparked the events that closely followed most significantly the opening of the Fillmore Auditorium and Avalon Ballroom as rock music venues. Demand for vintage concert handbills is skyrocketing since the the introduction of independent third party authentication and grading. Handbils have always been much easier to counterfeit than posters and CGC has brought much needed integrity to the market. The CGC packaging for these items is also SUPERB. This has led to an exponential interest in this area of the marketplace. Acid Test and Trips Festival material has ALWAYS been the bluest of blue chips in this marketplace.
