This lot includes a Signed Letter of Authenticity by Jay Thelin proprietor of The Psychedelic Shop! The short lived but historic shop closed in October 1967 and the LOA states the issue has been in Jay Thelin's possession since. VERY RARE! Original P.O. FRISCO Underground Newspaper #1 released September 2nd 1966. This FIRST AND ONLY issue pre-dates the S.F. Oracle paper by just a few weeks. Allen Cohen (who was later editor & cofounder of the Oracle) joined forces with Ron & Jay Thelin owners of The Psychedelic Shop to produce a new underground newspaper in the Haight-Ashbury district during the summer of 1966. The Thelin brothers ended up contributing money to begin printing (as they also did later with the Oracle) and this single 12-page tabloid issue of the P.O. Frisco was the result. (The P.O. in the title stood for "Psychedelphic Oracle"). Very few copies were produced and the issue was poorly received overall so soonafter Cohen and the Thelin brothers began work on The San Francisco Oracle.
